A foreword finds Dr. Watson locked in an 1889 London madhouse. Next we see 14-year-old Enola Holmes, Sherlock's young sister, creating a new persona as the beautiful Viola Everseau. With the curious appearance of bouquets sent to Mrs. Watson, the plots converge. Internal monologues articulate the heroine's loneliness, and Katherine Kellgren infuses these with energy to reveal Enola's insight, intelligence, and outrage at the snobbery of her brothers. This third Enola story is full of detail and emotion, and Kellgren leaps on the dramatic possibilities as Enola leaps on clues. Mirroring Enola's skill at disguises, she speaks the accent of a street urchin and turns a shopkeeper's posh accent to Cockney in a tirade. S.W.
